Food Access at the Market

Brighton Farmers Market supports the accessibility of fresh, healthy and local foods. We accept federally funded food assistance programs such as SNAP/HIP and city, state, and inhouse coupon programs that allow us to increase our food access footprint in the community. To learn about all the various food assistance programs we offer please read below for more information.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

Formerly known as Food Stamps is the nation’s largest federally funded food assistance program, supporting the expansion of an individual’s food budget for those who qualify. In Massachusetts, SNAP is administered by the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA).

What Does SNAP have to offer?

  • Monthly funds on an EBT card to buy food.
  • $40, $60 or $80 (depending on claimed household size) a month put back on your EBT card when you use SNAP to buy locally grown fruits and vegetables via the Healthy Incentives Program (HIP).

Healthy Incentives Program (HIP):

  • If you have SNAP, you automatically have HIP benefits!
  • HIP puts money back on your EBT card when you use SNAP to buy healthy, local fruits and vegetables from HIP certified farms via a Farmers Market, Farm Stand, Mobile Market or CSA.
  • To spend your HIP money, you need to have a balance on your SNAP card.
  • Learn more about HIP NOW!

To sign up for SNAP, or general inquiries please call the Project Bread Food Source Hotline at (800) 645-8333
