Food Access Support Assistant Manager

ABCD’s Mobile Food Pop-Ups program provides food to the community facing food insecurity through a series of monthly mobile food distribution events in the City of Boston. Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Program Director – Food Insecurity to design and implement the Mobile Food Pop-Ups program.
  • Coordinate, oversee and assist with the transportation, delivery and distribution of perishable and non-perishable food items to the ABCD Food Hub, distribution locations and ABCD neighborhood offices.
  • Ensure program functions successfully on schedule in order to successfully provide enrolled clients with food.
  • Direct supervisees on program activities and delegate tasks accordingly.
  • Oversee client outreach and intake to enroll and provide service to eligible clients.
  • Oversee the tracking and data collection of client information and assist in the preparation of reports for funding sources.
  • Oversee volunteer assistance along with the training and leading of volunteers to effectively assist with distribution activities.
  • Enforce food safety guidelines and facilitate the education of supervisees and volunteers on guidelines.
  • Conduct inventory of food and record temperature logs at the ABCD Food Hub.
  • Monitor adherence to grant funding guidelines during program operations.
  • Oversee and assist with the handling of food in accordance with food safety guidelines in the ABCD Food Hub, delivery sites and during Mobile Food Pop-Ups events.
  • Ensure the appropriate storage of food and equipment, in a safe and organized manner both in the vehicle, at the ABCD Food Hub and at the distribution events.
  • Communicate and ensure adherence to routes and program schedules in order to ensure that safe food temperatures for perishable and non-perishable foods are maintained.
  • Oversee and organize office operations and procedures (e.g. typing, filing, photocopying, faxing and other clerical services).
  • Develop periodic training and protocols of clerical and administrative support.
  • Assist in related grant writing, development and implementation of programming processes for clients, volunteers and food.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors.
  • Manage bills to be paid, and provide follow-up to make sure all accounts are reconciled.
  • Manage inventory and purchase of office supplies, food and the servicing of equipment and renewals of contracts.
  • Disseminate information about the program throughout the community, representing the agency at meetings with other agencies, local groups, etc. as appropriate.
  • Develop relationships with other community based organizations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.
Physical & Environmental Conditions
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Walking and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Drive the ABCD Food Van and rented U-Haul to Pop Up locations.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent and one to three years of work experience required.
  • Ability to obtain a Food Pantry Safety Workshop certification or ServSafe within the first six months of employment required.
  • Experience and knowledge of warehouse operations preferred. Minimum of six months to one year of management experience preferred.
  • Planning and program coordination experience preferred.

Rate is $29.48 / hr. 35 Hours a Week. 9am – 5pm, Monday – Friday.
