Thanks to grants from the City of Boston’s Age Strong Commission and the Rabbi Abraham Halbfinger and Charlesview Charitable Fund, LBFE-Boston is offering another year of Creative Connections, an arts instruction program for older adults living in public/affordable housing. We are looking for community-based instructors to lead 6-to-8-week courses.
Classes will be offered in senior housing in Boston’s Allston and Brighton neighborhoods over several program sessions (March/April, April/May, June/July). We are eager to engage instructors with demonstrated experience working in multicultural community settings. Experienced instructors in arts (including but not limited to mixed media, painting, dance/movement, and poetry/creative writing) and those who speak languages in addition to English (esp. Mandarin, Cantonese, Taiwanese, Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean, and Russian) are particularly encouraged to contact us.
Instructors will receive a fee of $1800 to $2400 per course, depending on the number of classes taught.
Many older adults living in public/affordable housing have faced barriers (logistical, economic, and linguistic/cultural) to accessing arts training. Through Creative Connections, LBFE-Boston seeks to overcome these barriers by bringing arts instruction to residents where they live, free of charge; providing materials and supplies; and offering linguistically and culturally informed content.
